I telephoned and asked regarding access as I have limited ability for walking and everything was given in detail to me. When I arrived it was absolutely correct, stairs etc. The lounge and bar are spacious with ample seating. My grandson had a lovely bath with plenty of bubbles. The room was clean and had been done thoroughly. They are spacious and have good thick walls, we stayed in room 9 and it had a good aspect to the front with a very good sized tv. You are most certainly not falling over each other in that one. At breakfast the servery was again faultless, there was more than enough for everyone, help yourself all round, the staff are about should you wish assistance but leave you to choose the hot buffet. The tea and coffee was excellent. It was a lovely experience.
Please also be aware that they are the only hotel to offer a fantastic deal for the Adventure Park they sell the £25 tickets at half price not making any prfit just passing it on to the customer. For a family this is a mega deal. I am most certainly going back to this hotel. The hotel has travellers stopping yearly here from all over the world…This must be an accolade.

Bishops Stortford, United Kingdom, Trip Advisor.com Just stayed at this hotel for one night, & the proprietors couldn’t have done more to make us feel at home. The room was spacious, clean & comfortable & their food was great. The prices of their food & drinks were very reasonable so we didn’t feel at all “ripped off”. We’d definately stay again.
Room Tip: no.6 has a 4 poster bed!

“Very Comfortable and would stay again”
Staff were very friendly, the room comfortable and clean, very convenient location. The fact that this Hotel did meals at a reasonable price was a bonus as I was travelling alone and didn’t want to go out for a meal. Mrs Florence Ann Scullard

Warm welcome when we arrived and Bertie carried our bags (I am partially sighted) which was most kind.We shared a twin bedroom on the ground floor (number 14) which has a door on to the carpark and a little kitchentte. It is a short passage away from the bar area. We were worried that it would be noisy but the bar closes at 1.00pm and we were not disturbed at all. Dinner is from a limited menu but very tasty and breakfast was quite extensive: fruit juice, tea/coffee, cereal, fruit, eggs how you like them, beans, hash browns, bacon etc. Newspapers were on the table.
I asked for an extra blanket and it arrived promptly. Bed was most comfortable. The water was hot and I appreciated having a bath option.
Hotel situated near the seafront and we would recommend it as good value for money. We weren’t on holiday, luckily chose this hotel because we needed to be reasonably close to the hospital (not in walking distance).

Booked into the Ilfracombe after being let down by a hotel we had previously booked, thank goodness for that. Luckily Bertie had had a cancellation and was able to accommodate us. We arrived on a scooter but there was ample room in the rear car park. All the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, and nothing is too much trouble. The room we had (No 7) was clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities and even a small fridge.
It was a chilly night and we turned the radiator on slightly and it made the room lovely and snug.
Had a nice relaxed drink in the bar before going for a Thai meal locally and an evening out in the town.Breakfast next morning was lovely and consisted of cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt, juice, tea and hot cooked full English on a serve yourself basis. There was no rush as breakfast doesn’t finish until 11am on a Sunday, although a couple of late risers were still accommodated after this time.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we will definitely be back.
Well done Bertie and family, a winning combination!

We’ve recently stayed at the Ifracombe House hotel for a weekend. We found their details on the Southend on Sea information website and for the price thought it was very reasonable for a bed and breakfast.
Now that we’ve been and stayed, we have to say its definitely value for money!! The staff were ever so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us to make sure we were happy throughout our stay.

Leigh on Sea Boats
Set in a lovely area, a few minutes walk to the seafront and has a car park, bar and restaurant.
The breakfast was buffet style but had more than enough to chose from.
Our room was not very big but more than adequate.
Would definitely recommend this little gem to family and friends. Stayed February 2013, travelled as a couple

We have used it a couple of times now for family visits and it is comfortable, clean, with a good location close to the centre and has a small convenient car park. The fabric of the building and rooms are nothing special but everything works fine. What makes it is the service, dedication and attention to guests’ needs by owner, Bertie and his family. I personally would trade the satellite subscription channels #available in bedrooms and in the excellent hotel bar# for a lower price — I was amazed by how much Bertie told me he has to pay for these. We will certainly stay again. Stayed February 2013, travelled with family

Small Hotel but well formed
Hotel in lovely quiet position. Close to the seafront for that early morning stroll. It is a 10 minute stroll to Southend High street for shops, pubs and restaurants. I was upgraded to a double room at the back of the hotel. It was clean and had enough room for two people easily. The room was clean and well laid out. Breakfast is buffet style and has plenty for all. A pleasant stay.
My only problem is that the car park has limited spaces, and you have to be quick or early to make sure you get in. On street parking is plentiful but it is a residential area, so this is a bit hit and miss. Reviewed by David R From England

+ All of the staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly. they were also very knowledgeable about the local area, which in many hotels these days is somewhat lacking. Overall was a good experience and we would go back there if we were in Southend again. Reviewed by A White From Havant, England
