This is a well run hotel and we were made to feel very welcome by the owners and their staff.

The location is ideal being a short walk to the shops, the theatre, good restaurants and of course the seafront and its attractions. There are many stylish touches added to make the stay a bit special. A proper white table cloth on the breakfast table was just one example. The owners really make the effort. The decoration is eclectic, and If you want to get away from the standard box rooms of the usual hotel chains then you must try Ilfracombe House. You may even bump into a famous face.

My husband and I stayed there for 2 nights. We arrived slightly late however they were very accommodating. The bathroom is not very modern however both room and bathroom are spotless clean. The breakfast was very nice and the staff are very friendly. They do have parking but limited only for few cars however parking on the road is free just round the corner and some limited space outside the hotel.
The beach is close to the hotel – down the road and down some stairs around the lovely gardens.
We are already planning on going again.

This is now the seventh or eighth time I’ve stayed there over the past 5 or 6 years. I travel down from Aberdeen, for a Skinhead meet every Easter weekend and I’ve been a couple of time with my wife and daughter too.

This has to be the friendliest hotel I’ve ever stayed in, any where. Bertie, Ben and all the other staff are just fantastic. Always cheery and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, clean and airy. The food in the hotel is great, the breakfast is second to none and it lasts from 7am to 11am so no rush.

There is a small carpark at the rear and on my most recent trip Bertie gave up his space so I could park my motor there all weekend. There’s always parking within a short distance any how.

I can’t see past this place and it is run in the way a good family hotel should be. I’ll be back, again and again that’s for sure.

…….sorry Martin, you found Southend on the top form. Hope Mansfield won’t go down this year and we’ll see you again. I have a photo from the match that day. Regards, Bertie

We spent 2 weeks at this hotel, and would happily stay there again. I had originally booked a double room and a family room for my husband, myself, and 4 children, but when we checked in we were given two apartment suites which were wonderful. Each suite had a different theme; one was decorated in a Japanese style, the other Greek. Being a suite, they each included a large sitting room with Sky TV and a kitchen with washing and cooking facilities.
Everything was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was awesome. And everyone running the hotel was helpful and friendly.
We had a wonderful stay there, and can’t praise Bertie and the rest of the family enough for their gem of a hotel. Stayed March 2015, travelled with family

I stayed at the hotel for 5 weeks. It was an amazing stay. I was moved around couple of times. Even stay at their flat. Family run hotel, both husband and wife are great. Rooms are very clean and update. I enjoyed the flat better. Reasonable price for longer stay. Excellent breakfast and reasonable price for dinner. Walking distance to sea. travelled on business
