Three couples booked and although our rooms varied in size, overall we were very pleased with our ‘compact’ option. The tea making facilities and toiletries supplied were much appreciated. The breakfast – served 7.30 – 11 am and so good. Worth going for the breakfast alone!! There is a nice cozy lounge area opening into a spacious bar area. The owners go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. They are knowledgeable about the area and very helpful with queries and recommendations.

Beds are comfortable and loads of hot water. Spacious for hanging/storing clothes and overall, a great place. Very impressed with quality = cost. Hotel very close to sea but also almost on top of beautiful conservation area which is so quiet compared to Southend itself, yet within easy walking distance of Southend activities.
Room Tip: No. 12 at top but enormous and space to sit. Sea view. No. 1 is spacious and very large bathroom.

We were in room #9 which was a family room with a double/single bed clean and fresh sheet looking out onto the main road. our friends stayed above us room #12 in same type of room they also looked out to the front main rd but as they were higher up they had a bit of a sea view.
Our room had two comfy chairs and two regular chairs, a coffee table, wardrobe and two bedside cabinets. A Mini fridge and coffee/tea/sugar and a kettle. Television and a FAN great for the hot weather stay. Bathroom had a Rain shower which was powerful and knocked off the sand, which we were very grateful of. Towels were provided however we did have to ask for an extra bath towel since there were three in our room. They made sure was in our room for the next day, so I feel they actually listen too the customer and act upon it..Fantastic customer service. Ive stayed in 5* hotels that forget and you have to keep asking.

Breakfast was plentiful and you have the option of scrambled, fried or poached eggs..and buffet style beans, stewed tomatoes, Hash browns, Bacon, Sausage. also plenty different cereal options and white or wheat toast is offered as well as Tea coffee, apple or orange juice. I could not fault the food AT ALL. The tables were set really wonderful with linen table cloths. The bar area was pretty and relaxing our children 7yr ad 10yrs played on the computer down in the bar. We ate a cooked meal at 8:30pm nothing was too much for this hotel..we were very impressed.
Bertie and his family were very welcoming and nothing was too
much trouble, lovely people.

We would have no hesitation to book again if we are in the area. However we are going to stay in the apartment as we visited it and would have worked brilliant for us. See you next year Bertie, Elaine Dave Harris. and Gail and Martin Strickland. Room Tip: #12 is a Family room with a little bit of sea view room..

    • Location is excellent as close to the coast. Friendly staff and great breakfast to start the day.
Decor is intentially dated and adds to the warm atmosphere.

Just spent four nights at the ilfracombe hotel. Visiting for a family wedding and couldn’t have chosen a better hotel. No, it’s not the most modern hotel in the world, however, the staff are brilliant & Could not have been more helpful. My room had:fridge, iron, ironing board, fan and TV. I took four relatives there for dinner last night, it was no problem for them and the food is great. So if you are heading that way, stay at the Ilfracombe hotel, you won’t be sorry
Room Tip: Front facing have died view of sea.

Great location for the cliffs theatre and Southend town centre . This small hotel is very comfortable and clean. The room was at the front of the building and no noise to keep us awake . The room had a sofa and tea and coffee making facilities . The breakfast was very good lots of choice of cereals fruit and a full cooked breakfast. We found it to be great value for money and hope to return some time soon.

stayed here now on business for 5 weeks on and off, staff very accommodating, nice room, sofa food great, would recommend this over the ‘better known’ impersonal brands
Although a little quirky has a charm all,of its own and and as a female have no issues going to small bar or eating in
Room Tip: Go for deluxe, not the Hilton but fridge, sofa and dvd great for relaxing

Bertie and his family were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, lovely people.
We stayed in the medieval apartment on the ground floor, no noise whatsoever, great. It was one door down from the main guest house – so out your front door, past the guest house next door and into Ilfracombe House. Ilfracombe House had a seating area outside the front so as it was nice we sat there and had a drink and you could see the sea, it was in a great position – away from all the action but close enough to walk to it all.
The walks to the sea front were lovely, along the cliff top with lots of seating areas, well kept gardens and picnic areas, and the views were stunning of the sea. The apartment, although dated was clean and had everything you could want – cooker, fridge, washing machine and TV in the lounge and both bedrooms. A good size apartment. It was a lovely touch to find some fresh roses on the dining table – thank you. The breakfast was superb and the tables were set beautifully. Bertie was there to welcome us and even made our toast.
Self service – fresh orange, apple juice, tea, coffee – cereals, toast, jams, marmalade’s, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs (Bertie said he would make us poached or fried if we preferred) tomatoes, beans and hash browns. I’m sure there was more but I can’t remember. The atmosphere was totally relaxed thanks to Bertie. The only negative I have is that the front of the apartments outside (not the guest house), need a good clean and the area needs weeding. There were lots of cigarette ends and general untidiness, it wouldn’t take much to sort it out and would make a better first impression. But that wouldn’t stop me staying there again.

On arrival staff guided us into a parking space in their car park which was otherwise full as were they. Parking available on the road too and car parks in walking distance. Close to a small shopping centre; handy as I had forgotten my boots and it was March. Quick check in, spacious room with a sofa, coffee table. tv, wardrobe. Decent en suite. Hotel is a little dated but that’s no issue as it was perfectly clean. There was a coach staying so very busy but again no issue with the buffet breakfast which was very good and plenty of it. Good stay.
Room Tip: We had room 6 which is top floor

You can tell the difference when you visit a hotel where the owners contribute and spend time with their guests.
Bertie and the team are friendly and smiling, even under pressure.
Food was a high standard pub grub and very reasonable.
Lamb shank with mash was great. Chatted with my “neighbours” who had all had a great meal and come regularly.
    Great value and large portions.
    Highly recommended.

I have stayed at this Bed and Breakfast twice now it is everything you could want for a long weekend.
our room had been recently decorated, the shower room was of a high spec’ and the over all feel was one of a home from home.
Breakfast was a help your self buffet but there was also staff there to help with any special request.
This is not a five star glamorous hotel, this is a clean, well run, seaside B’N’B with a bar and the loveliest of staff.
I will always book The Ilfracombe (if I can, they are nearly always fully booked, so book well in advance) for a long weekend in Southend xXx
Room Tip: I have stayed in room number 4 twice and it was perfect for me.

A bit dated but a really nice place to stay, food is wonderful, rooms very cleanand its location is ideal as its not to noisy outside. we were able to park within the hotel grounds which is a real bonus.
A 10 min walk to the Cliffs Pavillion really well situated for everything.
